Group training in focus and study skills helped nursing students put things off less

Who it’s about: Students

A young woman in a striped jumper sits cross-legged on a cushion turning pages of a large open book, a stack of books behind her.
  1. Helped

Students who learned focus, study and memory skills in a group put off schoolwork less than the waiting group.

Small randomised trial of 30 female nursing students in Iran · vs students still waiting for the training · they rated themselves · ⚠ numbers unreliable; results look too good to be true

The study

Who took part

30 female nursing students in Iran who put off schoolwork the most. The English summary and the Persian text disagree on their school and their year of study.

What they did

One group had eight group sessions, two a week, led by a psychologist. They learned how to focus, active ways to study, memory tricks and relaxation. The waiting group got nothing until the study ended.

What happened

At the end, the training group rated themselves as putting off schoolwork much less than the waiting group. They also felt more involved in their studies. The report is partly garbled and its numbers don't add up, so we can't give sizes, and nobody was checked again later.
