Classes on how to study went with less putting off schoolwork

Who it’s about: Students

  1. Helped

Students who had eight classes on goals and ways to study put off schoolwork less than students with no classes.

The study

Who took part

40 first-year medical students aged 19 to 22 at a university in Ahvaz, Iran, split into two groups of 20. The paper is not clear on how people were put in groups.

What they did

One group had eight 70-minute classes on setting goals and on ways to study. These included summarising, turning notes into maps, planning study time and checking their own understanding. The other group got no classes.

What happened

The class group rated themselves as putting off schoolwork less at the end and two months later. The other group stayed about the same. The difference looks too large to be believable, and the tables are hard to read, so treat the size with care. The study's main goal, confidence with digital tools, did not clearly differ between groups.
