After four group talks about book characters, students said they put off schoolwork less.

The study

Who took part

7 grade 8 students (4 boys and 3 girls) at an Islamic junior high school in Surakarta, Indonesia. They were hand-picked, but the paper doesn't say how.

What they did

The students met as a group with a counsellor four times to talk about books. The idea is that students see themselves in a book character with a similar problem and learn ways to cope. The paper doesn't name the books or say what happened in each session.

What happened

At the end, the students rated themselves as putting off schoolwork less than at the start. There was no other group to compare with and no later check. The paper calls the method effective, but its results alone can't show that.
