The study
Who took part
All 250 first-year medical students in one biochemistry course, and their 4 teachers. They were at a state medical college in India.
What they did
Each student took one practice test on Quizizz, an online quiz with 20 timed questions, a live leaderboard and instant feedback. They also took one paper test with 5 short written answers on a different topic. The two tests were a week apart, in swapped order, and then students filled in a questionnaire about both.
What happened
86 in 100 students liked the online quiz better, and about 85 in 100 said it was fun and they enjoyed it. Only opinions were asked. The study didn't measure learning or test whether the two tests really differed. The paper's summary claims more than these results show.
