The study

Who took part

40 university students in China aged 18 to 28, split into two groups of 20. All of them scored above average for problem social media use and for putting off going to bed.

What they did

One group had eight weekly one-hour mindfulness sessions, such as sitting meditation, body scans, mindful walking and breathing. Each session had sharing and tasks to use mindfulness in daily life, later at bedtime. The other group got nothing.

What happened

The mindfulness group rated themselves as putting off bedtime less at the end than at the start. The other group stayed about the same. The authors say the groups differed at the end but don't print that test. The mindfulness group also put off bedtime less at the start, and there was no later check.
