The review
Who took part
1,054 children with ADHD, aged 5 to 18, took part in 12 trials. Most were boys in every trial.
What they did
Children were taught to keep their materials, time and tasks in order. Programmes lasted 6 to 32 weeks, and parents and teachers often took part. The other groups got usual care, waited for the course, or had parent education.
What happened
Teachers and parents both rated the children as more organised after the training, and parents saw a large change. Teacher-rated schoolwork and grades improved by smaller amounts. Ratings of attention problems also improved, more by parents than by teachers.
