The study

  1. Who took part

180 university students on a fully online course in Kazakhstan, split into two groups of 90. The paper did not record their ages or sex.

  2. What they did

One group got AI feedback inside the course platform. It was based on how they used the course and on short notes they wrote. It gave tips on setting goals, managing time and reflecting. The other group got the usual grades and short teacher comments. Both groups did the same 10-week course.

  3. What happened

At the end, the AI feedback group rated planning, reflection and effort higher than the other group did. They also handed work in earlier, about 10 hours before the deadline against about 4, and fewer were late: 4 against 7. Exam scores were only a little higher, not a clear difference, and the summary claims more than the results show.
